this morning, i walked eli to school. the excitement on his face was unreal. we waved at neighbors. we pretended the curb was a balance beam. we paused to look at a super tiny bug. i quizzed eli on if he remembered all the planets in the solar system. he asked me what 5 plus 5 plus 5 equals. we talked about his reward chart. how if he gets just one more smiley face, he gets a special treat.
i let go of his hand at school and i walked home alone.
the walk home felt a little odd. i'm use to being like a mother duck with her ducklings following close behind her. it was just me this time.
we survived week one of kindergarten. and i think everything is going to be alright.
