the making of a birthday t-shirt

this little man turns 5 on thursday. 5! every birthday is a milestone to me. but 5!

in honor of the number 5, i made him a birthday t-shirt and it was quite simple really.

it actually took me longer to pack the car up, drive to the craft store, get the kids in the cart, dodge the toy isle and tell the children 629 times that i would not buy them silly putty (again!).

once i got the supplies, it took me seriously 15 minutes or less to make and cost a mere $5. here we go...

supplies needed: t-shirt, washed with no softener (cost $1.50 at the craft store because i had a coupon). freezer paper (a few bucks at the grocery store). black fabric paint (already had). cutting board & x-acto knife (already had).

-printed off the number 5 in super large font onto printer paper
-placed paper over a piece of freezer paper (wax side down)
-cut out the number 5 on a cutting board with the x-acto knife
-this gave me a stencil made out of freezer paper. you no longer need the computer paper or number
-ironed stencil on the t-shirt where i wanted it
-painted in the number 5
-peeled the freezer paper stencil off and had the most adorable handmade birthday shirt
